The Soul Journey

A big: Bon Jour to you all on the Water Your Soul Journey. We are about to enter the middle phase of the journey(BODY – SOUL-SPIRIT) - this is where you will win or loose the game…in the soul!  Remember: We just finished at Monte Carlo on our physical race towards growing into being an active person…how are you doing right now. Keep up the good work especially over the feastive season when you will need to burn some extra kilojoules!

The Soul:

  • Thoughts
  • Feelings
  • Actions

As we leave France from the Port of Villa Francke, we cruise away having had a refreshing time of learning how to eat more healthy and how to start to exercise sustainably… What will help you to stay on track is what is happening in your soul…in the way you think or have perceptions about things; in the way emotions determine your state of mind and rule your life; and finally in the way you can practise selfdiscipline or just give up when the first little hill  comes your way? I am off to have a lovely dinner at the Tuscan Grill – just to get me into the mood of Tuscanny where we are heading to tomorrow…

The dinner was awesome and the company (my husband) was so lifegiving! It’s good to take off time and travel with the one you love because those times you can just relax and enjoy each other’s company. It was our first Black Tie evening on the ship and we all got dressed up for the event!

With the Cruising Ship on it’s way and confronting the seas ahead with total ease, I fell asleep feeling nurtured body/soul and spirit!

The sun was about to rose as we entered Genoa Port in Italy: A new day was dawning and as we sat on the deck at the back of the ship we could reflect on a beautiful yesterday and taking in the Italian air for today! Thank you God for this special time in our lives!

Our Journey today will be to Volterra and San Gimignano. In Volterra we will talk about our thoughts and feelings and in San Gimignano we will talk about our actions(behaviour). Right after breakfast we are off on the bus to Volterra…The beautiful countryside with its Block houses and high windows and offcourse the rows of Siprusses brought  intense pleasure to the eyes and the hearts and we all need to take a photo before the bus makes the next turn…get ready…flash!

First some history about Italy: The concept of Italy as a geographic entity goes back to the time of the Etruscans. Prior to the 19th century the only time the penisula was united was under the reign of the Romans. Rome became the capital of a hugh empire, introducing its language, laws and calender to most of Europe. During the Roman empire Catholic Christianity was also established and the Pope up to today plays an important role. In the north: Venice, Florence, Milan, Genoa, Pisa and Siena grew into dependant city states. This was the most prosperous and cutured region in Western Europe…it was the artists and scholars of the 15th century Florence that inspired the Renaissance. In the 16th centuyt, Spain invaded all these small city states. In the 19th century, a small independed kingdom, Piedmont,  played an important role in the unification of Italy in 1870…thanks to Garribaldi’s heroic military exploites. Eventually in 1946, the Monarchy was abandoned for today’s Republic!

Now like all Etrusan cities, Volterra is situated on a high plateau. The Museo Guarnacci containes one of the best collections of Etrusan artifacts in Italy. The Palezzo dei Priori, the medieval seat of Goverment, on Piazza deo Priori is the oldest of its kind in Tuscanny. The Museo Civico features works by Florentine Artists: Christ in Majesty (1492) BY Girlandaio. The city is well known for its craftsmen who have been carving elaborate statues and object d’art from locally mined alabaster for 2500 years!

Come let’s gather in the Piazza deo Priori to find out more about our thoughts and feelings:

Thoughts (intellectual dimension)

Were do our thoughts come from? Yes, from previous experiences that form perceptions in our minds and become our habitual way of thinking! Are all our thoughts the truth? No offcourse not, they are merely ways we cope with our reality by self protection. Why do we need to cope with our reality?  We are battling with many different things at certain stages of our lives and we either accept them or cope with them for survival reasons…What are the things that we battle with? As a Biokineticist/Biblical Counselor I get to do with people from all walks of life and the following are real cases (without names) from my practises: I am unworthy/I am ugly and fat/ I am poor/I am stupid and don’t have any qualification/I am sick because it runs in the family/I will die young/This sickness no-one can survive/My friends hate me/My husband or boyfriend doesn’t love me/My parents don’t love me, to name but a few… All these thoughts have become realities in these people’s lives but they are not necessarily the truth!! These thoughts have also become perceptions of these people and they believe it. You know they say that a believe is not just  ideas that people posesses but it is ideas that posesses people. Are you being possessed by certain ideas of thoughts that have become the way you live now?

How can I change the way I think so that I will only gather truths in my life to live by?

In the first place: You need to think what you think about! What thoughts gather in your mind on a continious basis/On what are you basing the truths in your life?/What is truth? Make a quick note of the thoughts that crossed your mind today…you might have to do some tracking back from actions to feelings to the actual thought that started all these action!                                                                    So…how did you do? Now take each one and mark it right or wrong if it does or doesn’t reflect the real truth in your life…come on do it! Those that are lies you believe…please scratch them out and delete them forever from your mind…if they do come back again remember they were scratched out – they no longer exist! And those that you have marked as true to you…which of them made their arrival in your mind because of hardships or traumatic events in your life…? Have you forgiven what had happenend to you or do still want revenge? Have you become bitter about it? Please write it down on a piece of paper (event); now forgive them because by not forgiving your are drinking the pioson you want them to have…and your body is carring the results of it! Let it go today…If it is someting that you need to accept, won’t you please ask God to help you to do that and let Him give you His peace that goes beyond understanding!

Let’s put real truths in our mind now:

  • You were created by God for a purpouse…do you know what your purpouse is yet?
  • You were perfectly created in Body – Soul – Spirit…don’t believe the lies!
  • You are worthy: Jesus died on the cross for you…He is your Saviour too!
  • Start each day with new thoughts from God…be still and know that He is God, the one you loved you first…
  • Fear and anxiety does not come from God – it is part of the plan of evilness in our world to take us away from God
  • The Joy of the Lord is my strength and my stronghold…say this everyday
  • You are loved!

See – it’s easy! When these thoughts reign in your mind there is no place for negative thinking or even entertaining the lies that enter but merely showing them the door…OUT! You will have to practise this for quite a while because you need to create new thinking patterns and thinking habits. God gave us a choice to react to these truths/lies…choose what will be life-giving not life-destroying thoughts and nurture those…picturing them so you can remember them!

Feelings (Emotional Dimension)

You know, I always think of feelings as little children: They are always hungry, craving all you attention and can either make you laugh or make you cry! So then let’s treat them as little children…don’t let them drive your car (your life); don’t let them sit infront and dictate where you should go..(what you should do with your life), fasten them tightly in the back seat in their kiddies chair (restrain them when you need to make dangerous / difficult choices) Then we all know little children just need to be loved and cared for and so you will entertain feelings of love above any other feeling. If you know you are loved (by God) you can tust Him, hey and if you love there can be no fear because perfect love drives out all fear… We need to take the love we unconditionally receive from God and just hand it out to everyone around us. If you want to see love you will…if you want to see fear…you will too! Focus your feelings of love: see love/be love/give love and what ever wants to steal your love and give you fear is not really loving you!  Let it go!

Being a South African, I hold a high esteem for Mr. Nelson Mandela and in his inauguration speech as our first democratic president he said: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. He said it is not our darkness but our light that mostly frightens us. We have been born to make manifest the glory of God and as we let our light shine, we unconsciously encourage others to do the same… Won’t you please let your light shine through your thoughts and emotions to heal yourself and to ignite others around you to do the same! God Bless you in your process, my friends!
